Everyone Poops, But Not Everyone Talks About It

Kids, don’t be afraid to talk about poop. Ok. [Insert your poop jokes.] Now that is out of the way.

You may ask why a blog that is supposed to talk about food is talking about poop? Well, what do you think food becomes? Silly.

Here are the following reasons to not be afraid of talking about poop:

  1. Everyone poops.
    1. You poop. I poop. Emi poops. We all poop.
  2. You can die if you can’t poop.
    1. Here is a quick story about why it matters. My grandma and aunt died from colon cancer and rectal cancer respectively. Because, they weren’t telling others when they were having trouble. So, by the time that they went to the hospital, it was too late. My aunts experience was more troubling to me because she was a workaholic and didn’t take care of her own self. So, please tell someone when you are having trouble pooping because there maybe something bigger happening.
  3. There is no shame in pain.
    1. Being constipated hurts. I Especially after surgery, you may have had a lot of medications in you. You may be backed up for a few days. And, it hurts. It really hurts to the point that you feel like dying. MiraLAX and psyllium won’t work instantly, so might as well tell others your pain so that they can try to avoid the same outcome.
  4. There is a science to poops.
    1. Depending on what you eat and how you are digesting it, your poop is a result of that. You may be having diarrhea or really soft and smelly poop because you are eating too much fatty or spicy food and your body can’t digest it properly. Looking at Emi’s poop and handling it everyday helps me gauge how her health is doing and if she has drunken enough water or if she has had too much treats. Also, I learned that I have adult onset of lactose intolerance. For weeks, I was having diarrhea off and on. If there hadn’t been multiple sources that suggested such a prognosis to me then I wouldn’t have believed that my body had changed.
  5. It is funny. There is nothing more disarming than you suddenly starting a conversation about pooping. And I guarantee that you will feel a little bit closer to that person after.

Hopefully, I have convinced you that you don’t have to be afraid of taking about poop. It is inevitable and funny. Have you pooped today?
