What AI Can’t Replace

Kids, with the world changing as fast as it is, sometimes it is good to find something constant and consistent. Will AI take over my job? That’s a question that I’m currently pondering. That may happen in the next ten years. If that is the case, Daddy has to figure out what he wants to do during his midlife.

So, getting back to consistency… there is a place in Hong Kong that I always visit whenever I go back. It is a snake shop called 蛇王兄. They have been in the same business for three generations. There are only a few food ideas to get there. I love the turtle soup and snake soup. The snake meat kind of tastes like dry ground turkey. Snake is believed to boost immunity and improve circulation, so it is best eaten on cold days. They also have piping-hot glutinous rice and boneless chicken with rice that I love. They also offer many different snake liquors, but we are usually there just for the food. Going there is an experience that is timeless, where you relive the perfect experience every time, and delicious. And I love supporting small businesses.

In the past thirty years, there has been a fantastic array of technological advances. I’ll only focus on our internet transition because that covers a lot of advances already. Are you ready? Web browsing like Google, E-commerce like Amazon, Operating Systems like Microsoft, Smartphones like the iPhone, Social Media like Facebook, streaming like Netflix, and now Artificial Intelligence like ChatGPT. All developed within my lifetime.

What will the world look like when you guys are old enough to read? I can only wonder. One thing I can say for certain is that AI won’t be killing snakes. Perhaps a robot will be making me the food? Maybe in a couple of generations, the tradition of snake soup will also go extinct. What other traditions will become no more?
