Trauma: Tomato and eggs (番茄炒蛋)

DISCLAIMER: I didn’t make the picture. That is how strong my feelings are.

Kids, there will be a dish in life that you hate. For me, that is scrambled eggs and tomatoes. Maybe there is trauma. I didn’t like it when my mom made it and I didn’t like it when my older sisters made it. Most recently, someone from life group made it and I didn’t have a single bite. I passed it to the next person like we were playing hot potato.

I will share more about my dislike of scrambled eggs in a future post.

I usually like cooked tomatoes so much more than raw tomatoes. Tomato sauce in pasta, yum. Fried green tomatoes, delicious. Oven roasted tomatoes, flavor bombs. For raw tomatoes, I do love burrata and sliced heirloom tomatoes with a bit of an oil, salt, and balsamic vinegar, mouth watering.

But, the combination of scrambled eggs and tomato just turns into a vile mess to me. I think I also have an issue with the consistency and flavors combined. Sliminess and off putting eggyness.

Why is this specific combination so off putting? Trauma. I guess I should see a therapist about this – maybe it would give her a chuckle. I would also ask her if my love for Charmander, a fire type Pokémon, is related to my anger issues. Anyways, I hope that daddy doesn’t give you trauma, if so, I hope that it is something that I also dislike.

I should have you try my stewed okra and tomatoes. It is one of those things that some people like but other don’t quite like the texture – I think you may enjoy it. It’s good on it’s own but I like it with rice or with a leftover baguette. I’ll make it for you next time you visit me in New Orleans.
