Kids, sometimes you will be in a rut. Daddy has his creative moments and then desert moments. For the past few months, I have been in a desert. I had run out of recipes that I wanted to cook. And, because of my ADHD, cooking things again doesn’t provide as much reward or dopamine hit to my brain as I need. So, I have been boiling meat and veggies and serving it to your mommy. Maybe I have been watching too many Culinary Class Wars and just thought that if the winner can just braise everything, then I can boil everything. Boiled food tastes boring fast. Auntie Blueberry Muffin has childhood trauma from this.
A couple of weeks ago I decided to open Molly Baz’s and Joël Robuchon’s cookbooks. It wasn’t the first time that I had gone through the cookbooks. But I skimmed through the recipes, pictures, and notes. I was invigorated with ideas and recipes to try once again. I found laughter and joy in the cookbooks. I found direction and passion.
Hopefully, one of these days I can freeform and not use recipes as a crutch so much. But, for now, recipes are my friends. I have a few more weeks of recipes to try again. After then, I just bought a new Cookbook by Clarissa Wei on Sitting the Month. Honestly, I have been in a rut with the whole starting a soup business thing also. Am I good enough? Hopefully this book will get my muse going again.
I know you guys will be in a rut sometimes in life. I’m not sure what will get you out of it. But, Daddy has to remind himself to flip through some cookbooks in the making.
P.S. This post hasn’t been grammar-edited by your mommy. So, please excuse any typos / ideas muddledness.
